Since ChatGPT was released a year ago today, I thought I’d reflect on the most common statement I’ve heard since.
That sentiment is brought up any time a new technology comes along, going back to at least the industrial revolution. If you’ve ever heard the term Luddite, it originated from a group protesting the use of cost-saving machinery in England in the early 1800s – because it was going to take away jobs.
My kids may say I’m old, but I’m not old enough to remember the industrial revolution. I do, however, remember when these were going to take our jobs:
💻 Computers
🌐 The internet
🔍 Code generators
🛠️ No-Code solutions
The result? It didn’t happen. The opposite did. These technologies not only enhanced efficiency but also created opportunities to deliver more value in less time.
A comment related to AI seems apt: 𝘈𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘫𝘰𝘣. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭. This is the lesson for the ages: Embrace change or die.
Oh, and I used AI to create an image of AI taking our jobs. If that thing shows up, then maybe there is something to the hype!
